Demystifying the concept of 'collaboration' on the UK BIM wedge

Given its high product and demand variability and temporary character, construction has been always regarded as fragmented and inefficient. The emerging construction digitalisation promises to extinct the afore-described persistent problems. Amidst this appetite for innovation and construction digitalisation, Building Information Modelling (BIM) both promises to modernise construction and simultaneously creates new challenges, particularly around communication and collaboration. The recent mandate for BIM use in governmentally-regulated projects calls for a re-evaluation of communication and collaboration in BIM-based projects and beyond. This presentation will demystify the concept of ‘collaboration’ on the famous UK BIM wedge drawing upon empirical data and management theory.
