Blockchain technology and the integrated Supply Chain - Needs and Requirements

Abstract

Among various digital technologies in construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) brings disruptive change in the industry, helping achieve improved efficiency and the overall sustainability outlook of construction. The global construction powerhouses, UK and China, both attempt to increase construction digitalisation through mandated BIM use in public procurement and construction supply chains. However, both industries still struggle to achieve rudimentary BIM compliance.

This talk will focus on the potential of blockchain technology in integrating construction supply chains and providing a layer of trust among construction companies. Increasing the Sino-British knowledge sharing through the overarching workshop aims at improving digitalisation and sustainability among construction SMEs. The workshop will be outward-looking, bringing experts and practitioners from China sharing their strategies to increase digitalisation adoption. A discussion on successful emerging business models and supply chain governance from China and successful UK policy-making initiatives and institutional alignment will be shared to synthesise roadmaps for both countries.
